Vic’s video picks
There’s some good stuff out there. Here are a few hand-picked do-it-yourself home repair, renovation and how-to videos from YouTube. I’ll be adding more and categorizing these very soon.
How to bend wood
This is a good video by Kent Perdue showing a simple way to bend wood.
A few commenters complained about his ripping technique, but I’ve tested this, and it works. Choose stock that won’t show the laminations on the side (unless you want that effect) and use many clamps!
Can you bend wood using your microwave?
Believe it or not, this boat builder shows you how. (And check out the cool jig!)
After all, a microwave oven is a required tool for every workshop… did I hear someone say “Pizza Pops”?
How to bend MDF… how to kerf
Kerfing material is a time-honored way of being able to bend it. This video shows the technique using MDF, but this will also work with other materials, including wood and synthetic wood, such as Trex. We curved a Trex skirt board for a round deck using kerfing.

How to solder copper pipe
Well, if anyone should know how to solder copper pipe, it’s these guys: the Copper Development Association.
A little dry in delivery — kinda reminds me of my old elementary school shop teacher — but it’s a good, quick overview of the basics. He doesn’t mention that a green flame is a good indicator of the correct heat.
Cool hammerless nail set!
Bob Schmidt introduces this nifty tool that will protect your thumb, your wood and your reputation.
Scary belt sander tricks
Well, I’m going to file this in the “don’t-try-this-at-home” category. The “Woodworking Hobo” shows you how to use a belt sander as a grinder to sharpen drill bits and more. Make sure that clamp’s tight!
